Dear Clients and Friends, I write to let you know about a new original artwork for sale in my March Musical Madness Collection called “Conductivity,” and canvas print purchasing options, as well! Enjoy the images below that follow the transformational journey of an old canvas that had an imperfect image which I was ready to paint over! (Left) “Conductivity” Original 24 x 42 Acrylic Collage on Canvas $1000 (shipping included) High Quality Canvas Prints of this Work Including Various Croppings Shown at Newsletter Bottom Along With Pricing For Reproductions The images below show my process of transforming a canvas with an unwanted image into a new piece of art. I’ve been painting on a very large portrait of five children and at the end of painting sessions I have amounts of colors leftover. Since I work in acrylics, these will quickly dry up overnight, and I hate wasting paint. I thought I would use up colors on this old canvas in a quick, abstract way and one night (before I began this photo series) I started swiping leftover greens and earthy red oche on to the canvas. At first, I simply wanted to cover what was there and I didn’t have any strong idea of what the new piece might become. After various painting sessions on the portrait, I started forming patterns with my leftover paints which were simple, fun and relaxing. At one point I was making zig-zaggy strokes which reminded me of a heartbeat monitor, and then, starting to criss-cross with teals and purples and making litte shapes. Eventually I began swirls–I find that forming quick, loose swirls going various directions is quite relaxing. I’m so glad I photographed each stage, since at the bottom of this you will see various abstract print croppings now available that were essentially formed along the way in this painting journey. I know there are a number of these that look somewhat similar but I know that when choosing art for one’s wall, sometimes a slight difference in colors, composition and cropping can make all the difference. When I meet with customers for custom framing I sometimes marvel at decision-making processes involving which white matteboard works best with a piece! Is it the warm white or is it the cool white that has a hint of very light purple when placed next to the image?! Or is it the white than almost appears to be a very light tan color…~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ But, back to the transformational process of this discarded canvas. Isn’t that how life is? Moments in time are captured images and time continues the evolution of our life stories. At one point I was working on another piece (Granny’s Woodstock Garden) and also hoping to submit some works to a local art show that had a “Portals” theme. On this “paint dump” canvas I then decided to start making musical symbols with leftover (or by then, very intentional) paint-passes…and then…I wondered if I could finish it and somehow qualify it as a “Portal” (guidelines were natural or man-made images that are somehow “Doors” into something). As I worked with musical symbols, I had an image in my mind of adding in conductor’s hands and using collage techniques (including pre-printed musical paper I get at Hobby Lobby for use in another piece in progress) and thus creating a image of a Portal into Music. I worked a lot on this one weekend about a month back hoping to meet the Monday entry deadline, only to find that I could not finish it in time AND the show had already received the maximum number of entries! But, all for the best because then I took my time to keep finishing it up until I achieved the point I felt it was finished. To see a video of the process Click Here Below are various cropped images that are available to purchase at 16 x 20 size as canvas prints for $95 each or 24 x 36 inches at $150 each. There are a few other size options on some of the croppings. The main artwork “Conductivity” is also available as a printed canvas at the same cost, with those images are at the very bottom. If you would like to make a purchase please message me with the title of the piece (I had fun making the titles!) and we can work out the payment options. I have a source for quality canvas prints that I’m very pleased with and will have it directly ship to you! Please message me at eileenslifer@lettersource.com to discuss/make purchases. Thank You!
